Stevens was partly right, except that an Amendment can't be voided, it can only be replaced by another. But the realproblem is that the 2d Amendmant, in today's world, is undecipherable. The Constitution is quite good at describing the makeup of the government, but very poor at describing social rules, in part because they are so vastly different now than when the Constituton was written. That vagueness is the reason we elect Presidents who will select either conservative or liberal judges, who can, without much question, decide a social issue however they please.

This suggests that a new Amendment could be written that would clarify possible ownership of guns and accessories, without restricting legitimate sporting and hobby use of guns. Unfortunately, the dishonest NRA is claiming that this means "taking away our guns," which is not the intent, but will in no way impede the NRA in its pursuits for any gun for all people, thus profiting the gun industry.

It is a real shame that LaPierre has so corrupted the NRA, which was, at one time, a wholesome advocate of gun ownership for hunting and hobby. So the kids and others who advocate sensible gun control measures, like background checks, limits on high capacity magazines, and eliminating the sale of AR-15's and similar guns, will have to fight the NRA and its dishonest claims with increaserd effort. The answer is simple-vote in November. The vote is more powerful than the lobby.
