Anybody want to take a shot on what I should say Sat. It's five to ten minutes on gun violence, it's a community commitment conversation in Columbus OH. I have a pretty good idea what I'm going to say, I'd just like to see if I have missed anything.
How many were shot in Columbus last year? How many died in car accidents?
How many people that died in car accidents were murdered on purpose? Now lets answer that same question about gunshot wounded?
Becareful using "taking a shot". Ammosexuals may feel invited.
pun intended
@MikeFlora You got my Respect!
Feel free to borrow anything from my 2 minute comments to the Florida CRC a few weeks back:
My name is ...(introduce self)....
and I stand with the survivors and families of the Parkland Florida shooting.
The sale of assault weapons designed for war and high capacity
Magazines needs to Stop. Now. Today.
The second amendment does not protect these highly lethal weapons,
whatever the NRA may say.
Seven states have banned the sale of assault weapons.
The NRA has challenged these laws but the Supreme Court has not ruled against them.
In the words of former Chief Justice Warren Burger on the subject of the
second amendment and the gun lobby:
"This has been the subject of one of the greatsest pieces of Fraud -
I repeat the word Fraud - on the American Public by special interest groups, that I have ever seen" . Assault weapons were first marketed to the public in the 1980s.
After the number of mass shootings began to rise, the sale of
assault rifles was banned in the United States from 1994 until 2004.
The number of people killed in mass shootings went down.
Diane Fienstein, said
“This bill won’t stop every mass shooting, but it will begin
removing these weapons of war from our streets.”
“Yes, it will be a long process to reduce the massive supply of these
assault weapons in our country, but we’ve got to start somewhere.”
Since the Assault Weapons ban ended in 2004, the rate of mass murders has been rising more and more rapidly.
It is time to do something meaningful.
End the madness of placing profits for the NRA and
gun manufacturers above the lives of children and the public
at large.
That's about what I had in mind to say with the addition that there are people out there, who refuse to give up so much as a bullet.
