Science deserves respect because it is the only discipline that seeks to falsify its own claims.
"Only" is a bit of a stretch. For example, our governmental system (in the US) is configured (via "Checks and balances" ) such that one could say the judicial system can "falsify" (more accurately "nullify" ) some of our laws. It's not quite the same, but it is still a kind of error correction/accountability, and is one of the reasons why I deeply respect the basis of our political system. (Its' current functioning... that's another matter.)
I also think such a mindset is healthy in general considerations of truth and one's worldview, though I'd sort-of agree that falsification is not as well embraced in communities that focus on these things.
Good point. It is just that I do not consider our government system to be a "discipline".
I would replace the word falsify by disprove. (although synonymous in certain circumstances, Falsify has a negative connotation i.e. misrepresent or lie.)
I can go with that.
Not so happy with "disprove" because it suggests its converse "prove" is also possible.
Well, that's one very good reason, but it's just the start Science, as a methodology, can be applied to many disciplines if people had the will to do so. If it was rigorously applied to religion - bingo! problem solved.
