Just to kick this off I'll throw an idea not generally used in sustainability.I am chasing a sustainable lifestyle, even at my advanced age. Imagine you earned $3,000 per month, and your cost of living was $3,000 per month and all of your peers were in the same position. You decide you want to get ahead and are willing to sacrifice your standard of living in order to do so. So you cut your monthly expenses to $1500 and save the balance. For this scenario we will work on zero inflation and use the historical average interest rate of 5%. You will have $18,495 at the end of the first year. $239,000 after 10 years, $377,934 after 14 years at which time your monthly interest is $1,574 so you could retire and keep your current lifestyle, or go back to your previous lifestyle and continue to save $1500 per month. Staying at $1500 per month costs means your lifestyle is now financially sustainable, you can quit work and do other things. I did this, it worked, owned my 1st house at 25, retired 1st time just before turning 30. My son did it, it worked, is retired at 31 and has just come back form 3 months in Europe. My daughter won't do it, prefers lifestyle and spends all her pay.
Now I am trying to sort other areas of my life, food, water, power without using money as the middle man.
Posted by kmazI recently had a couple of these signs made because sometimes in trying to make a plug available (or urge others to do so) there are some nuances that come up, such as you don't want to scare ...

Posted by JackPedigoI saw this today and even though it is a bit old it applies especially these days. It referenced the "boiling Frog Syndrome" which I have posted several times.

Posted by farmboy2017This is a one gallon olla used to irrigate garden plants. It works using capillary action. The vessel is porous and plant roots will wrap around it and drink from it!
Posted by farmboy2017I'm building a tiny house with an attached green house. It'll be off grid.
Posted by RugglesbySadly in suburbia these days, I did have a few acres on the coast a little further south 8 years back, sadly property settlements and so forth, so I start again - again - again.
