Mushrooms? Any body ever have much luck in growing them? I have tried a few types, only success was a kit 29 years ago. I think in the states you use horse manure for button mushroom compost, here we use cow, but I have had no success in recent years. Any tips would be awesome.

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.I have grown oyster mushrooms, they are a cellulose mushroom. To grow them you inoculate cord wood of the comparable species, that is not cut using petroleum based chain oil; canola oil works best. you can also cut them by hand or a large power saw and soaked. You then stack them and waiter a few weeks while maintaining the moisture level.

I have tried, I even took a short cut and purchased pre prepared wood and I think it was shavings inoculated with the spores, there was some colour, but it turned into mold. Are there any preferences for temperature, humidity, air flow and such? thanks for the input.
You can also find oyster mushrooms in many wooded areas growing on rotted fallen trees. Apparently all varieties are edible.
@JackPedigo I actually don't bother growing them any more, I can find about 30 different species of edibles on my land over a course of the spring, fall and summer; some of these are delicious like the bear's comb tooth and the giant western puffball.
@Rugglesby They are a deep shade mushroom at least the ones I pick in the wild are. I just shaded mine with a tarp on poles. They need air flow around thembut not a drying wind. I used green cut poplar cut in the early winter and stacked until spring. I soaked them for about 3 days in plastic barrels after drilling a few shallow holes in the end of the logs. Into the holes I placed small pieces of oyster mushrooms collect from the same species of polar the previous summer and preserved dry until needed. I restocked them and sprayed them a few times when I though they needed it. In about 4 to 6 weeks I got mushrooms that I picked several crops of over the summer. They did get some slime mold on them but by letting the log dry a bit it retarded the growth. I burnt the log in the wood stove the next winter but, I have been told that I could have got another year out of the stack.
