The Second Waltz, a Russian Suite by Dmitri Shostakovich.
This is especially for @rogerbenham because I know how much he likes Andre Rieu.

Sarcasm - one of the lowest forms of wit?

@FrayedBear: I hadn't thought about that, but I'll have to agree with you... it was used extensively by Donny Trump πŸ˜‰

@Ray13 you've been infected & not realised it?

@FrayedBear : Apparently. What's the cure?

@Ray13 learn self control? πŸ˜€

@FrayedBear : Ok, enough said 🀣

Wow, talk about over-the-top spectacle. Still, wonderful. Had to look this up. It was in Maastricht, Belgium.

I think that’s where Andre Rieu is based.

Exactly my problem with Rieu. Always over the top spectacle. Sort of like a Trump rally.

@rogerbenham He has done more to popularise classical music for ordinary people than anyone in the history of the genre. I suggest that any criticism of him is simply jealousy.

@FrayedBear How about the guy who started the Boston Pops? Or the Guy who started Classic FM? Suggesting that I am jealous of Rieu I find childish.
Pavaroti? M will have lots of names.

@rogerbenham Worldwide they have not achieved as much as Rieu or introduced as many new audiences to the genre.
Have a look at what he has achieved in terms of audience numbers, CD & DVD sales, fandom . . . Variety of music:

Why criticise success other than out of jealousy?

Why "over the top"? Quite simply he does not promote beigeness in his performances and very effectively combines aural with visual & kinetic senses to fulfil people's desires.

Well not too much of himself and obviously a very happy audience. But Rieu has to be ultimately the star.

rogerbenham: OK 🀣🀣🀣

Weren't Klemperer, von Karajan, Toscanini, Stokowski, Bernstein, Ozawa, Barbirolli, and many others "stars"?
