I’m back on home turf here in Northern Ireland today with a song which was written by one of Ireland’s most famous, and prolific songwriters - Percy French who was born in Roscommon in 1854 and who died in 1920. The Mountains of Mourne is amongst his best loved songs and here Northern Ireland Opera baritone Ben McAteer sings it standing beside the beach in Newcastle, Co.Down, accompanied by Ruth McGinley on piano, with the Mourne Mountains as a backdrop….
