@brentan I grew up in the 50's, 60's... Stepfather in NYC a Tango Singer. I knew about Broken Hearts before I knew how to read or write!!! Great Songwriters like Agustin Lara, Rafael Hernandez, Singers like Carlos Gardel, Hugo Del Carril and Libertad Lamarque. Era of Trios and Quartets too. My First Memory of a Theater Movie was Agustin Lara Life story in a movie playing himself so it is not surprise I started writing songs at 14 and surprising women with my creativity all my life.
This sounds like Ry Cooder was involved. Cuba is SO AWESOME!
I'm sure you're right. I came across them through the Buena Vista music. I found Compay Segundo first, then Ferrer and Portuondo.
