I will be going to Brittany in France with the choir in a few weeks time to a small town called Plerin Sur Mer. Our local town here in Northern Ireland is twinned with Plerin, and we will be hosted by a choir from there called Plena Voce. We’ve had this cross exchange for around twenty- five years, since our towns were first twinned, and we visit each other to perform together on alternate years. With this pending visit in mind I have chosen La Mer. - Charles Trenet....this was an international hit for him in 1946 and went on to be recorded in many languages, including English, and was a hit for Bobby Darin as “Beyond the Sea” in the 1960s.

Enjoy your trip and event! Hope you will tell us about it. La Mer by Charles Trenet is great. So popular song that was sung by many, Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour, Bobby Caldwell and even Julio Iglesias.

Thanks...I’m off to Norwich to visit my brother before that, I fly to Stanstead on Wednesday, and I’m only back a couple of weeks before I travel to France. Have you got any holidays planned?

@Marionville A week in Devon in August with my daughter, 4 days in a shepherds hut on Dartmoor and the rest at my brother's place outside Plymouth. Also looking at something abroad later in the year but need to sort out the pennies ?

@ipdg77 Yes...don’t wa all! I got my refund for the Norway trip which I had to cancel. My friend and I have made a new booking....but this time we’ve decided on a river cruise on the Danube in September. I haven’t been down to the West Country in years...enjoy your time there when it comes. ?

And now I've listened Charles Trenet's version. It may however be a recent listen.

I remember Bobby Darins hit.

I remember both of them....always preferred the French one.

@Marionville Darin wasn't in the same class as Trenet.

@FrayedBear of course not...though I did like some of his stuff...Mack the Knife was good,

@Marionville I'll stick with others particularly the women.
