Do you have any personal goals you're currently working towards? I have a book I want to finish. I have been writing every day using a sort of Pomodoro technique with a timer. 25 minutes minimum of writing. I'm thinking of upping it to 2x per day.

My first priority is to get healthy. I'd also like to write a book and am just getting back into research and reading as much as possible whilst getting my writing back on track.

I was a performing musician for the better part of 30 years. I played with a number of different working bands, as well as countless garage bands that never played a paid gig. I have been involved with bands who have opened shows for the likes of Blue Oyster Cult, Nazareth, Head East, April Wine, Quiet Riot, Molly Hatchet, and others. All of this took place in the Badger State. Then I moved to California, and for a while I was involved in a band that was based in Anaheim, CA. We played all over Orange County as well as several gigs in Lake Havasu City, AZ. That ended in late 2004, almost 14 years ago. With the close of my time with that band, I decided to "retire" from the music business.

When I moved back to Wisconsin, in late summer 2015, one of the things I heard the most from old friends was, "You still playing?" I found myself disliking saying that I wasn't and started thinking about "unretiring." I began working toward that goal, slowly. I had gotten rid of a lot of my gear, so I began acquiring a little gear at a time. It didn't seem like it was going anywhere very fast, though. Until last weekend.

On Saturday, a former bandmate, named Bo, called me. We played in a band together some 27 years ago in the early 90s. The band eventually split up and I went on to play in many other bands, as did he, but we never did have the opportunity to work together again. Until now. As it turns out, he has a new project going and they need a guitarist. They were having trouble coming up with one, but then found out that I had returned to the area. So Bo called me. We talked for quite a while about what he was looking for, what sort of material they wanted to do, and what it would take to get me out of retirement to join. The conversation went extremely well, and he asked if I was interested.

HELL YEAH!! Of COURSE I'm interested. I have 6 songs to learn and 3 songs to "relearn" (I've played all three in bands in the past, but it's been more than 14 years!!) And ... I have a problem.

I have until Saturday afternoon to come up with some gear that I'm going to need for practice. I'm not terribly worried about that, except that I've been out of it for long enough that I really don't know what's out there anymore. So I've been going through a sort of a "crash course." Right now, the #1 need I have is a better amp. The one I have is great for practicing at home in my basement office, but it won't cut it for an actual band practice let alone a gig. The amp that I used to have is long gone. Oh, how I wish I hadn't gotten rid of it.

The band has no name yet. I haven't even met everyone in the band yet, although I know Bo and I know the drummer. I think I used to play with the guitarist's brother WAY back in the day, but I'm not sure. I don't think I know the bass player.

I have a lot of work to do, both learning songs and getting my guitar chops and my voice back up to performance quality. It's gonna be a BLAST!!!! 🙂

(The photos are from one of the last gigs I played in the Badger State. This was at Pfiffner Pioneer Park in Stevens Point, which is where I currently live. With any luck, the new band will be occupying that band shell in the near future!!)

Over here in the UK we have an apprenticeships programme. Don't know if you have this over in the US (it wouldn't suprise me if we stole the idea from you) but it is basically where you take a job, and educate yourself at the same time, gaining a qualification (it is low pay, but when the apprenticship is over, it is highly likely that you will be offered the job). It used to be just for people under 24, but from April this year there is no age restriction. I am currently applying for an apprenticeship in law, and confident of becoming a Lawyer by profession by 2020

I've wanted to be a doctor since I was 8. After completing my Automotive degree, and not being hired for those skills, I decided to go back to univeristy and am currently working towards becoming an M.D! 23 years later, but better late than never! ????

My son wanted to be a lawyer by age 6, I asked him why... since I am suspicious of anyone that will defend the Guilty... and he said... "Because lawyers know everything". He still wants to practice Law. So I know those feelings don't go away... I wish you the best of Luck. We need good Medicine in this world.

@GipsyOfNewSpain Thank you so very much!

I’ve been working on a novel for a while now - it’s hard work! Anyone who says writing is easy needs to sit in the chair and try it.

My newest goal is to be that hawt 55 year old dude you see on the beach. To that end, I’ve been doing some kind of physical activity every day - walking, running, or working out.

Staying alive and apparently I can't drink for the next year or so Drs orders so there is that .

When asked what my personal goals are I tend to quote Groucho Marx.

“I intend to live forever, or die trying”

Joking aside my goal at the moment is to build enough savings to retire in about nine years. When I do I am selling my house, moving to the Scottish highlands where I’m going to open a second hand book shop and coffee shop.

My plan is to have it on the tourist route known as The North Coast 500. Hopefully there should be good passing trade and I’ll live off my pension and the store will be to keep me busy.

Working to rediscover my girlish figure and see my abs again. In a little over 2 yrs. have gone from 350lbs to 290lbs. Since I've put a decent amount of muscle on the fat loss has been greater than the bodyweight loss. Slowly piecing together my life and emotional health with considerable difficulty. Finances and physical issues are getting in the way of that goal. Also trying to keep my job as my deteriorating body threatens that. See, all simple, easily attainable goals right?

I am working on my 7th book, have done cardio everyday since early in 2015, am studying to be a yoga teacher, and working 2 jobs to pay off bills so I can move. So yes, I am working on a few goals

I am preparing to sell my house in spring/summer. Lots of projects to finish, and crap to get rid of. I've been researching warmer climates. Once my youngest child goes to college (in August) I would like to move. I also need to land a job in said warmer climate. It is a bit overwhelming, but I'm working on it!

@silvereyes I would definitely consider Florida. Now that I'm old, I would fit right in! 🙂

@silvereyes Also, I think my kids would love to visit if I end up in Florida. I have a friend who moved there a couple years ago. She lives by Clearwater and loves it. I'll have to check out the job situation!

Well, @MrLizard , clear out a room...I'll see you in a couple of months! Haha I'm not sure where Gainesville is. I'll have to google it.

Interested in vegan lifestyle for a while. Took the plunge. I've been eating vegan for a week now. No complaints.

MyLiege Level 7 Feb 28, 2018

So far my favorite is a coconut curry, but there are sooo many options out there. Plus, it's helpful to be dating a guy who is vegan and a chef. 😉
