Do you offset a sedentary lifestyle filled with PCs, TVs, and other technological indulgences? Even in small ways, do you try to counteract sitting time?
I used to be able to walk 3 miles at a clip-- and this was as an amputee. My doctors keep trying to direct me to lowering my expectations. Sitting around on the computer all day is not how I want to live my life, despite their advice.

25 years ago I had a one legged acquaintance who walked at an extremely brisk pace. He loved his ten mile forays through the bush and yet was considerably overweight.
I knew someone who had severe trauma to his knees and was told he would never walk again and if so would wear braces. That statement seemed to be what helped him do just that. He always took jobs that required walking
I do lots of things even being disabled but I wouldn't call it offsetting really. the tech compliments the other things I do beautifully and breaks up my days which are always painful or more painful. I would never have done any of this without tech or it would have been a lot harder.

I'm on my feet during the day ( lab bench work) mostly. When I go into writing mode I get restless easily because it's long periods of time just sitting or lying down. I jog, love long walks with my dog, and try going to the beach every chance I get to play with the waves. I'm a big sucker for salsa social, and attend every chance I get. I'd say I'm more of a busy body than couch potato, but there are days when I merge with the couch, catch up on the shows I've neglected, and eat everything in sight.

I was an office worker for most of my life, but surfed or did farm work on weekends, now I am outdoors 3 hours 1st thing in the morning and last thing at night, I work outdoors 2 days a week. I still spend too much time on the PC, don't do television though.

I am 67 and have many scars to show an active life. Used to always think about being in shape but not to the point of losing life and my loves. But always active working around the house and stuff. I built a woodshop but the things I have done mean nothing , rather it is the willingness to understand my aged limits but not at all, never , give up trying to do something that is fantastic

I have 7 shih tzus and everybody walks everyday. On a good day I go about 5 miles, on a bad day I go about 10 miles. Plus my job has me standing for 8+ hours a day. Plus all the chores around the house (I'm single). I'd kill to sit down for more than 5 minutes.

I get up and walk around the office a bit, but that's pretty minimal. When the weather is nicer (i.e., not during the five-and-a-half months of winter here), I'll sometimes take a long walk around town on my lunch break. It's not much, but it's something.

Well, the cleanest bathrooms where I work are up on the 2nd floor, so I do a couple flights of stairs now and then. I'm VERY LUCKY to have stayed a healthy weight without trying. I suffer from an autoimmune illness that often makes moving a real pain in the everything. I get by thanks to super strong opioid pain meds (go Fuck yourself FDA/DEA). Other than walking a few blocks to my parking area and walking my dogs, I'm making my living sitting down (that was once a sign of success!).

Committing to 10,000 steps on my Fitbit helps. If I can get to 12,000 it's 5 miles. There's a lot of upkeep to my place, 1/2 mile driveway, plus having dogs, horses and a twelve year old in Scouts, usually keeps me moving. Gained some weight over the winter so grateful for the sunshine that inspires me to get outside!
