Note to self: if this were a "Christian" nation, we would be caring for the poor, sick and the elderly, welcoming the strangers, and preparing our children to lead the way into the future. This country is the antithesis of of that, a country of fearful fools lead by thieves. I have to remember this to use whenever someone started talking about the US being a Christian nation.

And yes, i know that I'm preaching to the choir here.

Of course if we were a Christian Nation under such laws then there would be no work on Sundays (say goodbye to the NFL games), we would be stoning people for transgressions against "The Law". Women who are raped wood be forced to marry they're rapists or be killed if they didn't scream loud enough. Furthermore if a woman is not a virgin when she is married and is discovered naturally she would have to be stoned to death. I mean it is the law. The man who committed the crime would have to pay the woman's father because clearly he was the offended party. And so on and so forth with various Christian laws. So all things considered, I'm kind of glad that we're not a Christian Nation in that respect.

We would need the virtues of Christianity without the dogma. I doubt we would get that that. If we did, society would improve, I think, even if the belief in Christ is false.

I understand where you were going with that but there is no great leaps of morality In the Bible that a reasonable person could not have thought up without it.

I'm with you most of the way but I won't pretend there is not plenty to be fearful about with strangers. But then of course I'm not Christian.

Most Christians are merely cultural Christians. They will tell you on one hand that the bible is the word of God, then, on the other hand, admit that they don't even bother to read it except for a few select parts that make them feel good. My real problems with Christians is that there are so few true Christians. True Christians, those that practice what they preach, are really very nice tolerant caring people but they are rarer than a blue moon.

Afraid I would have to disagree with your idea of a true Christian, the sort of respectable person you describe is actually a heretic by biblical standards.
The most honest high profile biblical christian of the last 50 years was actually Fred Phelps, nothing he did or said was at odd with or in contention with the bible, and consequently he was a monstrous, disgusting old bastard, but he was a true and unhypocritical Christian
