I help my son at his Fish'n'chip shop. (For non Aussies on this site, a chip is a thick fry as in french fries. Kiwi's call them "chups) 😉 ).
Anyways, we sell a product which is sliced potato that is then battered and deep fried.

Being from Adelaide, I call them potato fritters.
Queenslanders call them potato scallops
Have friends from Vic who call them potato cakes.

So gunna do a little poll here; What do you call them?

Battered potato slices are known as.....

... something of questionable nutritional value to one's health. That's what I call them.

And I bet you only have the watered down cleaning product "white vinegar" for people to put on their chips - no malt, cider, wine or balsamic vinegar. Do you? Poms will probably pay you extra for "proper" vinegar - and you'll be the only one in Australia?

@powder I bet that the batter isn't even crispy! Is it?

@powder Why not coat them in chocolate before the batter or just chocolate batter.
Crispy fried onion batter is another interesting flavour but probably you just buy semi precooked & frozen potato scallops & don't make your own?

@powder The characature of an Australian male was the Barry Mackenzie strong square jaw - developed from a childhood of having to chew tough meat like like old sheep, steers, roos, possum . . . Now you hardly ever see strong jaws - who can afford meat - the bleedin' vegans are on your back, the Japanese & Chinese are pricing you out of the market and Maccas feeding you soft patties of shredded meat!

@powder I don't, unlike many in Australia, gamble by betting money. 😁

@powder no.
