Fucking Howard started this with Hicks. I don't care what you have done, if you are expat and Aussie then the Aust govt should get you home, and definitely fight against the death penalty. Instead they abondon them to US "justice".
First Hicks, Assange, that dude in Cambodia.....the list goes on.
If this woman is executed by the US and the Aust govt does nothing, then there can no longer be any doubt we are lackys, a proxy state, of imperial America.

She deserves half a million in protection from the Australian government. I looked into the story. She girl was schizophrenic, tried to hurt herself and others(a reason she slept further away from the family), her biological and stepparent never harmed her, the girl got sick of which doctors were called but she couldn't be seen until Monday. It is a messed up situation but I genuinely don't think that the child was killed. The doctors even back that up mental and physical.
Also as someone who thinks there is no afterlife I think that killing someone is an ultimate breach of freedom of that persons life (I am pro-choice and pro-euthanasia though).

What is the difference between the Anglo-US alliance and the Australia-US alliance. With the Anglo-US alliance, when the US says "Jump!" the Brits say "How high?!". With the Australia- US alliance, when the US says "Jump!" we yell "How high Sir?! "

In other words, I agree with you.

Sadly how Australians have changed from their free-spirited forefathers of 100 years ago. The following I believe is now the pipe dream of a long dead poet, Henry Lawson and a very sadly now dead jingoistic school teacher, John Dengate who made more money busking Irish rebel songs and Australian tunes and ballads for a couple of hours at Sydney Central Station than teaching.

@FrayedBear that subversion of the Australian independent spirit occurred during and because of WW1. It was my thesis area, so I'm familiar with it. Politicians of the time and their parties, Hughes, Fisher etc, mainly British born, corrupted the national psyche with militant pro British nationalism, crushing the emergent free spirt that was evident following Federation in 1901. Progressive Australian historians have explored this, so it's not just me being clever. The die was then cast for Australia to be sycophantic in our international identity, first to the Brits, and then the Yanks, and it's been going on ever since. This stuff has been rammed down out throats ever since, conservative parties and media, and now the so called Labor party, all on board. It's one reason I loathe the annual myth worship in Australia about WW1. Few Australians know about the domestic conflict, division, dissent, and divide of the time over that war. In addition to the highest per capita loss of soldiers of all countries in that war, our emerging national identity also died and never recovered.

@David1955 One delight that I have had from moving from NSW to Victoria has been to discover the works of AKMcDougall. He was a member of the Victorian Parliament and possibly was the last man in Australia to be tarred and feathered. This was thanks to Little Billy Hughes who put it about that a poem of his written of the Boer War was about WWI. Two of his poems that identify his leanings can be listened to on Sound Cloud:
