So the cardinal has been outed. Perhaps there is a god! John Howard and Tony Abbot didn’t seem particularly outraged as one would have thought. I wonder why that would be??

John Howard submitted a character reference to the court. Cognitive dissonance will in and Tony will not be mentality able to grasp the horrific impact of Pells legacy.

What have any of those people ever done that would indicate they are for pretty much anyone but themselves?

Can I just say, I loathe George Pell. I loathe the Catholic Church. I loathe people like Pell in the church, reactionaries, anti modernists who thwart change. I would not be surprised if he were guilty of such crimes. At first I was pleased that he was found guilty. But, as I've read about the details of the alleged crime, and the proceedings, and the flimsy evidence, I would not be surprised if this verdict were found to be "not safe" as the legals say, on appeal. If this happens it will give encouragement to those who think many alleged cases of abuse are made up. I hate to say it, but I have a bad feeling about this. Whatever we might think about cases like this, or people like Pell, the outcomes have to be beyond reasonable doubt. This case is far from over.

I agree. But at least a top Vatican employee has been taken to task. Wouldn’t have been thought possible even five years ago when we all knew what was going on but they were untouchable.

@Geoffrey51 yes, Pell's days as a power figure is over, no matter the future. That's good.

I'll never forget Pell's appalling manner at the Royal Commission. He drew gasps from those in the room with his callous remarks.
I don't know what the chances of a successful appeal are, but let it never be forgotten that a jury found him guilty of heinous crimes. He is the incarnation of hypocrisy.

I suspect his appeal will be in his favour as the Old Boy network will probably close ranks. As you say the jury said it! To my mind an appeal should be by jury as well, but what do I know.

I can’t remember his Royal Commission comment. Do you have a link?

Unfortunately juries frequently react emotively not factually.
