Okay Fellow Aussies and Aussie sceptics, I read through the Stimulus Proposals of the ScumMo Government and it kind of stared out to me that it appears that our Lib-Nat. Government is still openly clinging to the ' Trickle-down Effect Ideology' even now in this Covid Pandemic.
I.e. it appears that they think that by pouring BIG sums of money into Corporations, the Big End of Town, etc, that it will both preserve the Economy and WILL cause the money to find its way to the average peoples, correct?
But does not it work in the entirely opposite direction, that is, the average people need and spend THEIR money to purchase from the Big End of Town the goods, etc, that these companies, etc, produce in the first place, thus keeping those self-same businesses running.
By supporting the businesses, I mean the BIG businesses, with massive hand-outs, etc, and ONLY giving we at the bottom a couple of 'one off extra payments' and expecting us to stretch them out over 6 or more months.
Geez Louise, ScumMO, wake up the costs of just living have already skyrocket BEFORE Covid hit, that few miserable dollars will do almost S.F.A. for families in the coming months/year or so.
The BIG businesses will just pocket the exemptions, etc, and go upon their merry ways with them, leaving the economy in an even bigger shit-hole.

Of course. Right wingers are right wingers. Like the US, just like here. Give fortunes to business and crumbs to everyday people. Trickle down bullshit. Right wingers cannot bear the thought of giving anything to the 'undeserving' populace. But businesses and the wealthy, well they are always deserving. Watch as Australians go along with it and accept it. I like the French. When right wingers try to screw their entitlements the French go out and riot, burn cars and say no! The right wingers back off. Australians are push overs.

Don't know where your parents originate from M8 or where you you education on Australian History either, BUT, we have quite a history of being pushed to the boiling point and then 'letting rip.'
It goes back as far as the Rum Rebellion, the Governor Bligh Up-rising, Eureka Stockade, the Great Shearers Strike, the Broken Hill Miners Strike, the Kokada Track, push us around and go too far and we bite back and bite bloody hard.
City-siders and Big Smoke livers might be as soft as an Emu's turd but we Bushfolk are a whole different story.

@Triphid all my ancestors came mid 19th century from England, Wales and Ireland, and at one time I taught Australian history at University, and you really don't want to confuse the mythologized pop 'larrikin' Australian history, peddled by mainstream Australia, with the real history of Australian sycophancy in international affairs and Australian passivity domestically, with rare exceptions, like the opposition to conscription and eventually the war during WW1, and opposition and protest against the Vietnam war ( I was one of the demonstrators). Our larrikin myths apart, like Rum and Eureka, we are a passive people, who bend to authority, suck up to our 'betters' and go along with the exercise of power against us. We are not a country with a revolutionary history, like the US and France, and that submission to authority has allowed political parties Right and allegedly 'Left' to screw us over and force us to take it politically, and every other way, up the ass with barely a whimper. In other words, like I said, we are push overs.

@David1955 I think you are still confusing the genuine Aussies with those sycophantic arse-kissing politicians we are cursed with.

Myer closed.Just Jeans closed & refusing to pay rent obligations, Woolworths & Coles reducing trading hours . . .
And this will probably go on for at least two years until 90% have had the virus.
