Once in a blue moon... ... i had to filch these rare pics: an australian magpie in relentless persuit of a red-tailed cockatoo. (thanks to western rosella man on fakebook)

This guy adopted us 5 years ago, there are 3 of them and they come for a chat and food, maybe 15 days a year. We had a bad bushfire and one day they turned up all burnt and not well at all. We always make sure there is plenty of water for birds, but ...

The bats are back! 7 of them snuggling in my straw hat during the day again :) the pics are of a grey honeyeater taking his bath in my dutch oven.

He's nothing fancy or exotic by any means, but this was the best, coolest, funniest, most loyal bird I've ever had. The late, great Squidgeon.

I forgot this fellow in my earlier post. I like the way this photo turned out.

A sad sight today - this beautiful buzzard, dead and tangled in a thorny tree. There are cables running over the tree, it probably hit them and I hope it died quickly. :-(

One of my favorite hobbies is birdwatching/photography. Here is a Pileated Woodpecker.

Getting big! The second one was brought to me by the same client who brought me the first. She's pretty sure they're from the same nest. I'm not keen on returning invasive species to the wild but I think that's what's going to happen with these ...

I said I wasn't going to let this happen but.....it happened! Meet Whitey's and Arrow's brood: 4 beautiful mixed-breed goslings that hatched late last night. Whitey (the mom) is 12yrs. old and she and her sister, Goosey, were my first pet geese. ...

The first 9 chicks have hatched, dried, and are now in a brooding box. They're so cute! Two more have just hatched but are too wet to leave the incubator. And the first turkey poult pipping out now.

This Bald Eagle is always perched in this tree on the banks of Henry's Fork of the Snake River, about 5 miles from my house. No matter how many times I see him, it always gives me a thrill!

A couple of red-browed finches feeding, & one making peek-a-boo!

Some neat birds I encountered while bird-watching, today. There's a female long-tailed duck; a killdeer; a pair of American wigeons; since ring-billed gulls; and my favorite shot of the day, a male kestrel.

A Cooper's hawk I encountered on my way home from work, tonight.

I hope this post doesn't cause any upset--just sharing because I found it interesting. This is a young, female, domestic Muscovy duck with a badly broken left leg. Her owners (who have had her since she was a duckling) found her in their yard, unable...

Male and Female Ruby-throated Hummingbirds ... 200+ shots and an hour and a half of standing very still to get only one of each that I like ... worth every minute!

When recently I needed to don my garden hat I was quite out of luck: 7 microbats had snuggled in for the day, which became a 5-day visit, at which point they probably had caught up with their mob.

I met a guy today, and I shit you not, who's name was Richard Gobbler.
