My daughter wanted me to make a quilt for her as a wedding present. I’ve never made a quilt, but I was up for it. “What colors do you want?” I asked. She replies, “I like neutral colors, like dark gray and black.” Me, “Huh. What sort of pattern?” “Abstract”, she says. Ok, then. I call it, “Ants in the Basement”.

You've never made a quilt!??! Have you researched conventions where you can exhibit your work? You know how much a Master Quilter can ask for a quilt? As I see it, all you need is the displaying at exhibits, a few ribbons, and you're well on your way. For a first time quilt, I'm stunned!!! I'm struggling with a quilt now being very cautious about seam allowances, easing of fabric, etc. You're a natural!

@Elusia8 I "piece" with Aurifil thread. It can break sometimes while sewing or doing the quilting. I've purchased a spool of Decobob and will use it when I've exhausted the Aurifil. I went on what is called here a "shop hop"; quilt stores in the area will get together a couple times per year and have a grand prize and secondary prizes IF you get your "passport", purchased for $5, stamped at all the participating stores. Doing that will take a few days due to the mileage between the stores farthest from each other. The "shop hop" started this Thurs and will end today, then will be active again next Fri and Sat. There are door prizes and drawings at each shop separate from the grand prizes so you are not obligated to make all the shops in order to have a chance to win something. The first picture is a LSU-themed quilt I made for a great-great-niece who wasn't old enough at the time to thank me for it. The second picture is blocks for my next project. The design is "Snuggly Bricks" (which is similar in design to "subway tile" if you've ever paid attention to the arrangement of tile on walls). The last pic is a quilt I made for a great-nephew. He picked out the fabric with a few suggestions as to light and dark.

This is beautiful, I would feel quite privileged to possess such a work of art.
