Did some work with sterling silver metal clay this weekend. It's great stuff!

Nice! You have your own kiln? The only place I have seen it for sale is Fire Mountain, but I haven't really looked. It would be so neat to take a class in! Especially since I don't have any of the tools and equipment needed!

I took a few classes before I invested in a kiln. If you can find an instructor, it's worth it. There are also instructional videos on YouTube

@Anne209 I do love You Tube! I found that I learn visually much better than written instructions! I would still want a live instructor for this though!

I don't think you can find it at any of the hobby/craft stores. The Art Clay brand has a distributor in Chicago, Art Clay World. You can order online from them.

WOW!! I need more info on this stuff!! I REALLY want to have a go with it. First is the stuff very expensive? Do you have a best/least expensive source? What cone (temp) is the kiln set for?
This looks funn!!

There are two brands, PMC and Art Clay. They both patented and made only in Japan. The distributor in the U.S for the Art Clay is Art Clay World in Chicago. You can order it through them online. I've never used PMC. As for the firing, there are a few different types of clay, and they each come with complete firing instructions. There are videos on YouTube if you are interested. It's a lot of fun to work with.

@Anne209 Thank you.

I am really curious about this stuff, I have to get some and see how it works. Thinking about inlaying it in wood, will take some time but if I get something that looks good I will share. Thanks for your posts as I would not have known about this without you sharing.

I’ve done some research about inlaying it. It has to be kiln fired, so the silver piece has to be complete before you inlay. (Can’t inlay like apoxy sculpt and let cure). I’d love to see what you do with it. It’s fun to work with.

@Anne209 if it has to be kiln fired then it is not going to work, how hot does it have to get for how long?

@dalefvictor There are a few different types of clay, all with different firing schedules. Some can be torched fired. But that still takes about 10 minutes of an open flame, and it has to be a small enough piece to stay in the flame the entire time. The kiln firing varies from 1200 to 1600 degrees, ranging from 15 minutes to a couple of hours.
