I love the different art styles around the world! I tend 2 kind of throw a little bit of everything in. Back when I was drawing in a style similar 2 certain tribal art, I started drawing it before I had ever seen the style. One day a man saw it and said I was ok but I was doing it wrong. I didn't know what he meant, I had never tried 2 actually draw in any particular style before, I just sort of drew what came 2 me at the time. He told me it was tribal but I had added some dots and things he felt didn't belong. It didn't bother me much tho. I figured I must have done pretty good if I drew in a style I didn't even know existed and it was still recognizable! Lol

I have some broken bones in my neck that have caused nerve damage that affects my hands. I used 2 draw all day long but it got 2 where I couldn't hold my pencil for more than about 10 minutes at a time. I got all bummed out and stopped. This is about 4 or 5 inches wide so far and its already taken me more than a day

@Byrd OH!! I am so sorry to hear that - I know the saddness with physical malaise or injury changes how you do the things you LOVE.!! I am glad you are getting back to doing some drawing, think of the joy not the time it takes.

oh my...i hope the activity isn't causing more damage. a really soft media might help?

@hankster I don't think so, as long as I take breaks, but I'm going in soon 2 start the first of at least 5 surgeries so I hope 2 be more productive in the future!

@silverotter11 thank u! I think honestly that's been the hardest part, trying 2 explain 2 my friends and family that its connected 2 my emotions. I can't just sit down and draw whatever I want whenever I want. I have been working thru some issues in my life and the way it affected me mentally and emotionally really changed my ability 4 a while. It wasn't just the pain that kept me from my art, it was the feeling of loss. The fact that I knew I was no longer going 2 be able 2 do certain things 4 myself. I got pretty bummed out 4 a while but I'm doing ok now

coming back to drawing is odd. for me its always been a kind of a strange experience. like the drawing is deciding things for me, almost guiding me through itself until i get the hang of it again.

@hankster lol that's how I've drawn for quite a while now. I usually start out with a random shape somewhere on the page, and see where it goes. I have no idea what I'm drawing until its halfway done. Sometimes it irritates people who want me 2 draw 4 them because I have a hard time staying on topic. They may ask for a deer and it will end up being a bird

@Byrd I like it... You ever do that thing where you start drawing something from your eyes, like a still life, then at some point it jumps off to your imagination. that can often produce some funky results.

@hankster lol yes, this reminds me of when I was poor and couldn't afford new paper often, I would take an old picture I had never finished and start working on it, sometimes I didn't even remember what it was originally supposed 2 be, or I would take a crumpled paper, look at the lines and shadows on it till something popped out at me and draw that

@Byrd Isn't it wonderful how we creative types can do that? I used to stare at the acoustic ceiling in my room and make out pictures to draw...
