I bought myself a Kayak on Friday. I took it out right away, but had to return to shore after about 15 minutes. Thunderstorms and little boats don't mix well on the water. It rained on and off all day on Saturday. But, Sunday was really nice and I'm paying for it now. I was on the water for about 4 hours and my shoulders, arms, abs, back and legs are sore today. Where I went on the York River, the depth of the water is only about chest deep on me (I'm 5'6" ) until you get a little more than half way across the River where the depth drops to about 80', or almost 12 Fathoms. I didn't go out that far.

The Little guy, my Great-Grandson, had a good time, too, even though he's teething. He just turned 6 months old on the 17th.

I had one just like this - loved it but found it didn't track the greatest. It was wonderful for little excursions but not so great for anything serious. I will also state I was in a lake and not on a river. I use to put my 65lb pup in between my legs and my 15lb pup behind me (hmmmmm maybe that is why it didn't track very well 🤔🤣 ).

@AncientNight Someone stole my kayak last year at the beach so I am boatless currently... I have taken up walking and cycling to hopefully lose some of this ... 'life has been good' belly 🤣

This is what's known as a 'sit-on' and will lead to burns. The water is like a mirror and one can burn a lot faster on the water than off. Done that been there. A true kayak one sits inside it with a spray skirt so the bottom half is protected. One can still get burned from the waist up if not wearing protective clothing.

@AncientNight Interesting. I often get a nose burn every year and vow to use sunblock but often forget. I recently discovered how much masks help not only with the virus but pollen and too much sun on the nose. I wear a mask and cap outside and get some funny looks.
Whe I was in the military we were stationed near Boston. One of the guys went to Cape Cod to sun bath and fell asleep. He was part native and had really pale skin. He returned all red except where he had his hand on his abdomen. We all had a good laugh.
