Hanging up the paddle for the year.

Now that daylight savings time is no longer in effect it effectively stops me from my after work paddle. There towards the end I was coming in in what might be considered dark. Now I would be leaving the dock in what most definetly be classified as dark.

I noticed a lot of trash when I paddled at high tide, oddly low tide has almost no trash. I made it a point when kayaking at high tide to take the two person kayak and a 33 gallon tote that I would fill with trash. I could fill the tote to overflowing in my 7 mile lap. Over the summer I did this thing 5 times thereby toting 165 gallons of mostly plastic to the dumpster. The tide comes in and out and the trash just kind of hangs around in the estuary. A lot of the trash has barnacles on it as it has been hanging around for long enough to aquire barnacles. Actually that is good news that a lot of the trash is that old. Probably means that not that much trash is actually being dumped in the waterway because if it was I would be picking up mostly new prestine garbage.

I think that is a great way to help the environment, and your local area most of all. I grab trash when I see it, but nothing on that scale.
