I thought this was worth sharing here, the article is a few years old but still informative, and I like the alternatives that were mentioned. The site this article came from looks like a good one too. [thelibertarianrepublic.com]
Just curious, anyone here who is staunchly opposed to gun control legislation, and or who are shooting sports enthusiasts?
I signed up for "information" from NAGR a few years ago. What I got was an endless string of emails, sometimes several a day, asking for donations.
Unsubscribing didn't work. Eventually I had to threaten legal action to get them to stop emailing me.
I work in the home entertainment field, have for a quarter century. The NRA lost me in the 90s (after Columbine) when they decided the Second Amendment was more important than the First Amendment (1A is the backbone of where my money has come from, and has been very good to me. I have lobbied Congress over 1A issues, I have been fighting this my entire life). I still support 2A rights, but not at the cost of everything else. And in today's climate, the NRA and gun owners in general (and I may or may not have a small collection myself ) are willing to throw anything and everything under the bus to protect their precious unfettered rights, including (and seemingly, especially) the rights of everyone else.
I do support sensible, fair controls to gun ownership. My favoured model is how cars are (or were, in my youth) modelled. You can own one, and keep it safely at home, but if you want to take it out in public, take a course, get licensed, and have proper insurance. I'd end open-carry BS (because you look like a douche, have made yourself a target, and make the rest of us feel bad) and only allow CC with a permit.
@SpikeTalon I fully support everyone's right to carry (although I have also come to appreciate training). I allow carry into my business (open or concealed), but I am still going to think the person with the firearm in plain view is...compensating for something.
I'd much rather keep everything a mystery.
Posted by SpikeTalonI kneel before no one. No gods, no masters, no control freaks. Screw the tyrants from both political extremes, and their agendas.
Posted by SpikeTalonNeither one of the extremes, and yet the best of both worlds...
Posted by SpikeTalonSubstitute the word liberals for progressives, and that would describe me as well. As for the conservative part, the socially/theocratic (aka, bible thumpers, mostly) ones in particular.
Posted by SpikeTalonIndividuality is a dirty word to the authoritarians (both left and right) in the world.
