Here's another of my little oddball stories titled Winning is for the Loser. It won first place in the publisher's special release anthology -- The Race is On

There's a lot to like about your writing. One minor fact check, which you can ignore to taste, because I hate people who miss the point of a story or film but pick at it anyway. But... "Daydream Believer" didn't come out till around December '67.

Garbonza Level 6 July 24, 2019

@Garbonza -- The first release of Daydream Believer was 25 October 1967 and it topped the Variety chart in December 1967, but you are right in that I fudged the date. However, I jumped it by 33 days. The reason I used it was because it was iconic for the period. I was a professional in the music business before and after my period of service, so I knew I hacked the date, but it had to tie in to actual dates regarding actions at the time.

I don't mind at all folks picking out something like that. It tells me they read it at least that far. 😛 And that they know their music. I appreciate that. However, now that it has come up, I might consider rewriting to make adjustment for that little license. There were a lot of good tunes at the time.

I salute you for your sharp eye and keen memory, Sir.

@evidentialist Please see my book "Beach Boys vs Beatlemania: Rediscovering Sixties Music" (2007) by G. A. De Forest.

@Garbonza -- I will make it a point to do so, Mr. De Forest. Again, thank you for causing a rethink regarding the choice I made.

@evidentialist I better warn you it's a polemic which started life as a Beach Boy bio and then (after I lost the later drafts) was converted into a dichotomous (if that's a word) argument divvying up the spoils of pop cultural influence between them and the Beatles, as well as featuring most other key acts through the mid sixties. I liked "Daydream Believer" (in comparison to "I'm A Believer" ), written as it was by that folkie, and appreciated the sheer bulkiness of its reputed 6 million world sales, but all is leavened in my book through the lens of promotion and publicity outcomes, in the knowledge that the world's mass media basically had Murry or Brian Wilson to refer to as sources, while the Beatles had the entire worldwide EMI machine, and the Monkees had Columbia/ Screen Gems tv/movies. My couple of pages on the Monkees does side with Mike Nesmith-led independence over teeny-bopper formula from Don and the Brill Building writers.
