Iā€™m a vegetarian and I very passionate about protecting endangered species and the planet as a whole. We need to educate people about different environmental issues.

Good luck. Being a dedicated vegetarian is commendable and I hope you stick with it. Be prepared for a lot of pushback from die-hard carnivores.

I am curious what you think is the central issue (if any).

JackPedigo Level 9 Dec 16, 2018

I think the main issue is that animals leave a huge carbon footprint on the planet. They fart out harmful greenhouse gases including methane which is most potent one. Also, animals require a lot of space and agriculture and areas for animals to graze is one of the main causes of deforestation. Animals use up a lot of resources since plants have to be grown for animals to consume so they could grow and then eventually be killed for human consumption. It is a lot of wasted resources just to provide humans with animals. If more people became vegetarian than we could end world hunger since plants can be grown and given to impoverished people in developing countries instead of hoards of animals. There are 25 percent more cattle since a lot of people eat meat and there is a huge demand for it. More people should become vegetarian in order to protect the environment.

What issue do you think is the most important? What issue should we start with?

Willreef Level 6 Dec 16, 2018

The most important issue is that animals leave a huge carbon footprint on the planet.

@Rachel56 Do you consider humans animals? What do you suggest we do to move towards a solution for this issue?

@Willreef I do consider humans animals and I donā€™t think that we are superior of them. Humans donā€™t have a right to kill species to the point of extinction or destroy the environment. We can help to solve the issue of reducing our carbon footprint by encouraging more people to become vegetarians or vegans since animals are mass breed to supply humans with a lot of meat but if meat consumption decreased then less animals would be breed. 25 percent of the grazing cows exist because a lot of people eat red meat. We need to think about how our actions impact the environment and try our best to reuse, reduce and recycle.

@Willreef I've left child creation for our gene pool to my brother, it works for me.

I have this theory that many christians believe these are all signs of end times and they simply DO NOT CARE about the future of the environment or animals because they're all going to go drifting up to heaven. What do you think on htis idea?

I think that's their story. It's not possible to know what many are really thinking. Lots of people eat to impress the most powerful people in their life. One woman told me to find a rich man, see what his favorite way of eating is. Eat that way and prepare that way. No wonder so many men are spoiled, but if many are that way, it leaves lots of women with little option if they want to find a mate locally and fit in with their local crowd. If the top power figure says, I like to sink my teeth into a big juicy steak, then, folks will here lots of others claiming they like to bite into big juicy steaks. The leaders get sick and die off and if they have kids can increasingly have health and mental troubles, but the cycle continues. Plenty in the closet do eat less meat and more veggies, but not so obviously. Some have called me eccentric. It's been the best thing for my health ever to go vegan. I suppose I was almost vegetarian originally, but out of my parents house still had some crazy comfort foods to get over. There are vegetarian comparisons. Why when some vegetarians learn how challenging eggs and dairy are to digest they continue eating eggs and dairy? Also with nonorganic foods, why when some vegetarians and vegans see that so many side affects are related to additives and pesticide residues they continue eating convention with gmo foods when the oldest vegan eats almost 100% organic and his hair and skin look much better than others. Then, why when everyone if they live long enough during our generations starts showing signs of aging, do they ignore what others have done to reverse age related ailments and show limited interest in recuperating the environment so that there will be structured water, purer air, and less pollution from trash, industry and individuals? It really goes against logic that most don't put much thought into it and don't make many changes and those that try like me can be called eccentric. I'll keep working on strengthening my stance and trying to reach others so that we can all thrive better.

Sadly many donā€™t care, Iā€™m sure some toss religion into the equation while others just donā€™t care... a significant portion of the planet will either care or we will all suffer.

I think that sounds right because many Christian just focus on the afterlife instead of helping out the world.

I think there are all different types of Christians, it's more important to look at our own impact; as that's something that we have influence over šŸ˜‰
