Eating red meat is “good” for you??
”…ties to the 2016 ILSI-funded sugar study show how ILSI has methodically cultivated allies in academia around the world, and how it recruits influential scientists to help shape global nutrition advice and counter what it perceives to be anti-food industry guidelines by health organizations.” ILSI - International Life Sciences Institute, or ILSI, an industry trade group largely supported by agribusiness, food and pharmaceutical companies and whose members have included McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and Cargill, one of the largest beef processors in North America. The industry group, founded by a top Coca-Cola executive four decades ago, has long been accused by the World Health Organization and others of trying to undermine public health recommendations to advance the interests of its corporate members. Industry cares about only one thing and the recent rise in plant based meats have gotten some industries worried.
Looking over the comments I see some who say the scientists constantly flip-flop on food research so no one really knows. Unfortunately, that is exactly what these industries are striving for, confusion.

Have heard that red meat is bad for the liver, creates fatty livers.

Meat in this Country is not good for humans period. The way it is processed and all the drugs in the meat is killing humans. I've gone on a plant based diet since January and was able to come off high blood pressure medication, have taken off 28 lbs and my cholesterol is much lower. Unless you can get meat from a farmer who doesn't give the animals antibiotics and other drugs just say no.

Good for you. Many people, like me, started out with a plant based diet because of a concern for personal health. A lot of people say they only eat the local, grass fed and organic meats but I wonder if that is so when they go to the mainland do they become vegetarians.

There are too many folks anyway, so lets thin out the herd with obesity and heart attacks. Works for me.

Sometimes I agree. It's part of evolution by eliminating the stupid and lazy.

true, but then they create more of a burden on the health care system. Also, seems like much more obese people around, which creates eye pollution. I do agree with you on some level, but would be better if more ate healthier

There is science, weird science and junk science. There is also science in the hands of bad people and corporations. Every 5 to 10 years, new science debunks the previous science. We hardly know or try to find out who sponsored which research? But science has become such as a sexy word that everyone loves it and likes to be seen accepting science.

  1. Meat is bad for you... No, no, wait, it is good for you
  2. Milk is complete food - no, milk is bad for you
  3. Red wine is very good for you, No, wait. No alcohol is good for you
  4. Go vegan... No, eat everything in moderation. Don't avoid anything

The British who ran tea plantations in many British colonies by enslaving colonized people advertised......"If you drank 15 to 20 cups of tea every day, you would add 10 years to your life."

That was my point. Nutritionist have said over and over that basic knowledge of good and bad foods have been around for a long time and it is well established. It is the usual ploy by industries to try and pawn off their products that muddy the waters. Confusion is the name of their game. If people want to fall for it they are only helping CEO's pocketbooks.

@JackPedigo
What we don't understand is when to accept it as science. They all backup their claims as "Scientifically Proven" or "New Research Suggests" types of crap.

@St-Sinner Yes, but they always try to hide they are funding the research. My step-son is a pulomonologist [healthcommunities.com] for a hospital in Richmond, VA. For a long time the hospital was funder by Philip Morris. Several years ago a new director came in and cut all their ties with big tobacco, Duh. Needless to say the step-son was glad.

@JackPedigo
I am talking about us - we all. How we are big suckers and fall for all thinking it is all science. I have seen a tendency in people that accepting science somehow makes them smart. Bad guys do what they are good at - doing bad things. What about us?

@St-Sinner I agree and many scientist also agree. Science is often subjective and not open to debate. Many times the prevailing science is proven wrong or not quiet right. Also, I think it depends on what kind of science. The modern age with cell phones, atom smashers, astronomy and space research have proven to have enormous benefits. Physical science has set rules. The only questions that come up are between theoretical and applied scientists.
