They already are in various ways. The planet is also dying and something as easy as giving up or reducing meat consuming is too hard for many. If people can't do the easy thing how can they do the hard things needed to reduce our impact on the planet
I've read about a lot of temporary vegans -- motivated by The Jungle but unable to stay with it so they went back to meat. It struck an emotional chord with them but they weren't able to keep their positions focused.
There are a lot of potentially great ideas in our world (John Stuart Mill's Utilitarianism comes to mind) that I doubt we'll ever be mature enough to treat seriously.
There are too many short-sighted selfish folks in this world who don't know enough to hold their immediate gratification needs in check -- they see no problem with overall destruction as long as they get the shiny objects in front of them now.
I'm afraid the time won't be far away when they'll be forced to relearn their position. I just hope it won't be too late for all of us (as it already is for some).

I do not understand why people can't stick to eliminating meat especially if they have done so once. These days it is really easy. So many alternatives on the market.
I agree. We've been meatless for 20 or so years now and have never had a problem.

sorry... I just read it... I guess I'll have to cut out the 10'% meat in my diet if pork industry is privatized
@Cutiebeauty The report says the poultry industry is following suit. Unfortunately, the meat industries take their playbook from the tobacco and gun industries.
@JackPedigo well, I don't eat much meat anyway so it would be very easy for me to switch to 100 % vegetarian.
