Americans need to learn to cook again. Many take a box out of the freezer, microwave it and call it dinner.πŸ™

I think this is becoming a world-wide problem. The problem is that it takes more than one income to support a family. The more children the less time. My past step-son is a doctor married to a doctor. They now have 3 kids yet work full time. As soon as the kids are old enough in they go to a childcare facility. Fast, junk boxed meals is normal.

I used to do a cook up every week, back when I was organised and put meals in the freezer for the week, after a few weeks I had choices in there. I liked that method, now I have limited freezer space that’s out the window, unfortunately.

The first three are relatively easy but the third can be complicated. How much processing is processed. Tempeh is one the worlds oldest process food. There are lots of organic vegan foods that have some processing. Being single and cooking for myself one doesn't have time for everything from 'scratch'.
Thanks for the post.

I saw a doctor commentary recently (I can't remember where) that said fad diets were largely nonsense. The one thing people needed to do to eat more healthy and almost certainly lose weight was to cook their own food.

That single statement outweighed every other consideration for the overwhelming majority of people -- at least in the US. It's not as hard as many people make it out to be. And it's not like staples are expensive. People can win all the way around.

Yes, a study I saw said it didn’t matter which diet you did, you’d lose weight if you ate more healthy options and exercised a little πŸ™‚

@girlwithsmiles What if you ate healthy and exercised a lot and want to gain weight???

@JackPedigo I suppose you make sure you eat a fair bit of protein and perhaps do weights. Muscle weighs more than fat doesn’t it? 😊 there are more healthy carb options too. What method do you use?

@girlwithsmiles I do and discovered the Silk high protein milks and Cliff bars. I have done weight bearing exercises most of my adult life and, during decent weather (like today) walk from 2 to 3 miles a day. We have a great small gym here and the volunteer attendants (most things here are through volunteers) know their stuff and I am constantly learning ways to improve my time at this gym.
Got into a 'debate' with a typical "Atkins' guy the other day and had to stop. Today checked out the book "Veganist" by Kathy Freston. Most of the stuff I knew but now I can make a list (with links) and give out this information when needed. One big thing people say is that our teeth show we are carnivores. Our molars are like Herbivores, flat and blunt, good for grinding not gnashing. People assume that our 2 canines determine our diet. People forget some of the biggest and strongest animals, Elephants, Giraffes, bulls and Gorillas are herbivores.

@JackPedigo mmm we have different products in the Uk, but probably similar our trek bars are 9% protein. My partner uses huel, which is a pea based protein shake πŸ™‚
Mmm the old molar versus canine argument eh? Well my teeth are doing all I need, most of the time πŸ™‚ given we’ve not long been living past 35 they’ve adapted jolly well 😊

Sigh....I broke this rule today.

One item at a time, one day at a time πŸ™‚ so many options that aren’t really food and nutritious. When I go shopping I try and look at the big displays of sugary things and products that are empty of nutritional value and remind myself they’re not proper food. Perhaps that will help you sometimes too πŸ˜‰
