I have to be honest. I don't think this argument is terribly persuasive to adults. Not that I don't agree with it. But I've begun to believe that a lot of people would eat healthier if cooking and meal planning wasn't such a mystery. I am overwhelmed by the number of people I meet that prepare their meals out of habit. Main course, a meat, and two veggies, one is likely potatoes.
The world makes it hard and cooking a new way can seem daunting. Half of my friends who have kids talk constantly about being overwhelmed by the thought of preparing dinner, so they just take their kids to McDonald's. It isn't that they want to go there. It's just easy.
I think we'd get a lot farther if somehow we could show them how easy it is to live as a vegan. No parent thinks to themselves "I hope I can find some processed crap to give my kids tonight.". Make healthy easy, and we'll win the war.
There are, literally, tens of thousands of videos on YouTube and other places on the web that show how to make vegan meals. Furthermore, I personally, as a chef, over the past 2 decades have done 1000+ cooking demos at food festivals, veggieFests, corporate wellness events, and through private lessons. Cooking healthy is very easy.....how hard is beans and rice to start? Or a stir-fry with veggies over rice? etc. There are also hundreds of vegan food groups on FaceBook and even vegan recipe exchanges. I have a FB page -- again as a chef --- where I have shared over 1000 recipes. It's really, really simple --- but it takes a willingness to learn and NOT just reach for the easy processed shit or go through a drive-through.
One good start would be to connect these dots for the kids. Most kids think food comes from the grocery store and are horrified when someone tells them the adorable animals they see are actually what ends up on their plates!
