That's the jury system, and on the whole it works quite well.

In the age of the internet I am doubtful that we any longer need a Congress. We the people can vote directly in our browsers and enact laws.

We can do that in hospitals too.. . Before surgery for example... yours.

You're comparing a doctors surgical skills with those of a con man.....

The system is controlled by the ruling class, in such a way as to attract a certain kind of person - the careerist, the unprincipled lobbyist. Those without compassion or class consciousness.

A naive and silly proposal. Politics is a SKILL SET. Any doofus off the street can't do it. Which is why the current wave of Republican idiots is doing so much harm.

Same skill set as being a lawyer?

@zblaze Overlapping. Lawyers understand the legal and administrative processes, and legal training helps when writing law. But political skills are a different set of skills: the ability to build consensus, to recruit allies, to organize support, to frame things for the media, etc.
