If you want cheap healthcare move to Canada! I doubt you will ever get it down there! Any woman want to move up here?

It is ridiculous that in the U.S. people have the right to buy assault weapons, but peopel who get shot with those weapons don't have a right to health care.

Healthcare shoudl be a right and should be much more important than the ability to buy guns!

Of all the countries in the world, developed and developing we are the most regressive in regard to healthcare. Why is that? One study found that the more a citizenry is taken care of by their government the lower the religiosity. People no longer need a deity to look to for help. I have excellent healthcare because of my service in the military. It boggles my mind that this is not available to all. What is wrong with us? Also, one problem is that the Republicans (and their liberal lackeys) have allowed this to be titled "Obamacare". One study found that people wanted to get rid of Obamacare but keep their affordable care. This should tell one of the stupidity of too many. Get rid of the Obamacare title and make it Affordable Care.

Make it better, mend it, don't end it

I think there are actually two different issues at play here. Healthcare and how to pay for it. I think that as long as profits are part of either of these, the system as a whole will remain broken. Maybe a good start is to treat it as a utility and limit profits, including those of the insurance companies. (By the way, I think insurance is a big problem in all of this, because it often acts to hide healthcare prices. How often do you actually see an itemized bill?)

I need to do more research because I lack a solid understanding on this issue.

Remove government from the health care. With more and more government involvement in the health care system, things have certainly got more and more expensive. No matter how many ways things get sliced, it'll continue to be more expensive, no matter how much things get subsidized.

I'm pretty torn on this issue, so thank you for bringing it up so we can see other peoples thoughts and ideas.
For me, I'm all for universal health care, but I believe 2 things need to happen before that can be established.
1 - cost of healthcare has to be capped. Seriously, it is getting so friggin out of hand it is past being ridiculous.
2 - we as a country need to get healthier. There are more fast food restaurants than any other kind. We want so much food in a meal it is crazy! And soda? Holy schmolly! That crap will kill you! It is seriously cheaper to buy crap food than it is to buy healthy food. You want organic - awesome - now your tomatoes go from $1.49 a lb to $3.99 a lb. You want a smaller portion of something - anything - you end up paying more per unit (oz, lb, whatever) than if you buy it in bulk...this is just baffling. And forget it if you want non GMO, sugar free (including all the sugar substitutes) or gluten free! You'd go broke with that grocery bill. But, buy a crap ton of sugar, snacks and soda and you'll have money left over.
But - because all of this is run by big business and big business runs our government - we're pretty much shit out of luck.

And I just thought to myself that I'm getting depressing and negative about government, again, so time for a break! 🙂

I support single payer healthcare. It's about maintaining good health and healing the sick, not making money off of people for being sick and making them purchase medicines for the rest of their lives.
