No one is more gobsmacked than evangelical Michael Gerson, a former speechwriter for President George W. Bush. Writing in the Atlantic, he notes with disgust:

there appears to be no limit to what some evangelical leaders will endure. Figures such as Falwell and Franklin Graham followed Trump’s lead in supporting Judge Roy Moore in the December Senate election in Alabama. These are religious leaders who have spent their entire adult lives bemoaning cultural and moral decay. Yet they publicly backed a candidate who was repeatedly accused of sexual misconduct, including with a fourteen-year-old girl.

Evangelicals are sadly imprisoned by a world view that rejects pluralistic expression, that does not comport to there interpretation of the Christ myth. Infantile adoption of a doctrine that fails to inspire an acceptance of inevitable change through the open embrace of a vision of open inclusion of truthful loving brothers and sisters of differing beliefs..

Did these accusations actually result in him being charged with a crime? Sex with a minor is still a criminal offence in most places.

The problem here is the word accused. I could accuse.you of beastialty right now, would it make it true or you worthy of any less respect than you have now?
In the world of politics and press nothing should be taken at face value. They trade in deciept, lies and corruption for a living. All you can judge on is the actions which are known to be fact.

@RobLawrence You got that right!

Nothing is taken for granted. The allegations are investigated before reaching print, at least in the mainstream media. In fact, there was an attempt by the ironically named Project Veritas to sting the Post by sending a false witness to the paper. They investigated and did not print her allegations.

Roy Moore himself said he "didn't remember ever dating a girl without the permission of her mother." That suggests to me that he's a man who prefers "girls" over actual grown women. That's not proof of a crime but it certainly goes to his character, and I for one am disgusted with his character.

This is "10 Commandments on a granite monument in the courthouse" Roy Moore. Yeah, that guy. Why is it the religious zealots who generally are caught up in the sex scandals?

@Paul4747 great response. In answer to the last line: repression
