Origin of the universe

The origin of the universe, thought presently to be allowed by uncertainty and quantum level fluctuations (that is a VERY shorthand way of putting it), seems to bother many people of faith. Typically, they point to what they see as a vague hypothesis and substitute in god(s) as an explanation.

If you've ever had such an encounter, how do you respond?

Since the maths of Quantum Mechanics can simulate the conditions back to fractions of a second after the "Big Bang" but not right to the "singularity" then there will always be room for conjecture. Those who can't cope with the intellectual uncertainty of "not knowing" usually interpose a "God" in there somewhere to take care of the how and why. My experience of discussions with those god botherers who want to argue in favour of a god created universe is that once presented with the above reasoning usually just mentally flee.
