@SallyInStitches captain crunch is from the early days of phone phreaking. the box had a whistle that blew 2600hz...which is the same tone that the phone system used to unlock free calls.Captain Crunch is the moniker used by one of the first phreakers...2600 is the name of one of the oldest phreaking zines. His name is John Draper
