I think I see something similar, although not completely the same happening in the U.lS. with the rise of white supremacists and a denial by the religious right that it is there.
Many neo-Nazis and white supremacists say yes they agree with the right wing and expose their views as if everyoen on the right shares in what they think. Much liek the guy in the Plato's Republic calss described in the video did. The rigth wign doesn't really say anything to contradict them, so the Neo-Nazid and white supremacists end up speakign for the right wing, even if most right wingers don't share their views.
