Once someone loses the main election for President- as a candidate for the 2 major parties, not the primary, they fade into political irrelevancy. At least they never run for President again. Have you seen Al Gore, McCain, or any Repub/Democrat run again after losing the big one?

Nixon was elected after losing to Kennedy.

Nixon did it. Even he was a crook he did some good things (like create the EPA).
Romney running is almost as bad as Oprah. Besides the evangelicals still won't want a Mormon.
