Interesting that the 'original' door was not cast until after Rodin's death. He gave the French governments full rights to all his works and donated all of them to the state. There are castings of the doors at the Rodin Museum in Philadelphia and at Stanford University in California, now on my bucket list.

There is a lot to absorb in his sculpture of these doors, which seems to have formed the basis for several of his separate works. He created a narrative version of Dante's Divine Comedy, from which he then spins off leading characters as individual sculptures. Forms seem to flow out of these doors as ideas flow out of the mind.
