"YOU ARE NOT DEPRESSED, YOU ARE DISTRACTED". That is what my big brother, mentor, friend, teacher, departed master Facundo Cabral said. He was a folk singer from Argentina. A philosopher. Gunned down like Tupac and like Biggie in a vehicle. For catching a ride after a concert with the promoter of the concert in 2011. He always said "Life is Dangerous because the unknown is Dangerous and we simply don't know." I know well... I could follow doctor's advice and pump my body of drugs of all shape and colors and live in a Civil Zombie state or I can notice the life surrounding me and become a participant instead of being distracted... Let us not be Distracted anymore. Let us start Living Life to the Fullest. America is over diagnosed and over medicated. They go hand in hand don't they?

I think the way you expressed that might confuse folks into thinking you do not support people suffering serious depression to seek aid, rather than as I see it, a post about the overmedication of our society in general as a way of dealing with a population which is dissatisfied with that society and not sure how to go about the hard work of change.

LIFE unto DEATH has long been my own motto as well.
I think I might have gotten along well with your mentor.

Of course. You understood that and it was expressed at the end... for the idiots!!! That is the problem with america. I was out of the loop, I come from the first generation of opiate addiction in america and you are going to tell me... (and I chose not to be by the way) ...you are facing the same problems 50 years later? There is something wrong with a country, any country that can not remove a "social cancer" other of racism of course in 50 years. The drugs may had changed, even the medium for obtaining the drug may had changed. They say everything now is more powerful and for ende more destructive. Compare what percentage of the population in 1965 was diagnosed with depression. Compare it now what percentage of the population is diagnosed now. They give different labels and exotic names... etc. I am officially depressed according my military jacket for over 30 years. During those 30 years I accomplished more, got me more tail and felt more better about myself than ever before. And done without the medication produced by science. I been thru more hell than many other individuals but I was not grown to be nothing but a self sufficient individual capable of handling anything and everything that life got to offer. So I became my own doctor. I can not help anyone. But to many out there being medicated in a constant basis... that is not the solution. LIFE unto DEATH... sounds good to me and I will quote you, because it is all I had ever done. Live the Life. Like I had told some xians for 50 years perhaps.... If I got Hector on my side.. I got no room for jesus. Medication until Death is not a Solution is a Suicide.

he doesn't understand at all

He is not referring to the terminally depressed not able to leave their bed. But to those capable of overcome the diagnosis with simply living life... and stop being a medicated patient, If you are terminally depressed... I can not help you with my post... It was not meant for you... There is always somebody that loves to be diagnosed and medicated. Always someone in love with depression and won't let go. But you are not even living in america and wants to be an expert of what is going in america. tsk-tsk-tsk. I could provide you the link of the whole conversation but what will be the point. I don't think you speak his language.

excuse me bud but depression isn't just an American thing and ironically your not talking about an American anyway ffs.im not terminally depressed but clinically and it won't just go away. last but not least, how the fuck do I know your not talking to the likes of me on a public sight? are you talking to yourself? why even make that statement if you don't want a reply. id write a book if I was you mate.

@LeighShelton once you clinically medicate you are terminally medicated. So take your different colors pills until bottle empty and refill. refill, refill. We will dance on your grave but this is not about dancing in your grave. If you have a medical condition that medicine keeps you alive is one thing but there is a segment of population that will do anything a doctor tell them to do. Will take anything a doctor tell them to take. I know this case in early 90's of someone coming positive with hep c... told if you don't stop drinking you will die within 5 years.... the motherfucker did not stopped drinking... 25 years later, liver biopsy showed no damage or scaring, no symptoms of the decease other than positive in the blood. If he would had stopped drinking he would had been crediting that doctor for saving his life... instead he is telling the doctor a Big Fuck You, you could had ruined my life as I knew it if I would had followed your advice... by the way first diagnosis was hep a/b so... years later changed to hep c. Post is for the misdiagnosed, post is for the strong of will that soars above science and big pharma, post is for individuals like me that owns a will of their own. You need the drugs in your body to leave a normal life you do... I don't. Others like me self medicate when they feel like it in a recreational plane, not to be "normal or feel alive". But you know your needs. Post wasn't for you. It was a challenge for those that Understand, big pharma is not in your best interest and never been in your best interest. It is about Quality of Life. I don't need a pill to get out of bed or to go to bed.

I got to say your of course right about some people being hypercondriacts but everyone knows that. secondly ill say it one more fucking time, it's a public page

@LeighShelton My reference or his was never the "hypercondriacts" you referred to, it was the "weak" that got convinced they are "weak" and need chemicals to balance their "weakness" into normality. So having said that.... "Stop distracting me, I am not depress."

@GipsyOfNewSpain "once you medicate you are terminally medicted"...you have no idea what you are talking about in your entire post and i say Phooey!..i have gotten off Coumadin, ferpetessake.

America is all of that, I take only a thyroid prescription. Unfortunately there are some who do require medicating and when they are balanced can better enjoy their life. Just don't always listen to the doctors pushing pills. An occational recreational substance but I enjoy being focused and enjoying the life around me.

I never listen to doctors that just want to fill their quota.

you just don't listen @GipsyOfNewSpain

Nope, not overdiagnosed or overmedicated here. I have zero prescription meds. I indulge in a little ganja now and then, and enjoy some alcohol in moderation, and no ill effects from either, so far. Awareness and being present are my focus in my waking hours; there is almost a feeling of timelessness when one makes use of each moment, and there's no fretting over past or future.

Self medication never being bad... abuse of it may turn bad. A totally different scenario. Enjoy life with whatever guilty pleasures you can afford and live long and prosper.

@GipsyOfNewSpain I'm very fortunate, don't seem to have any genetic predisposition, and haven't ever fallen into the trap of addiction. Perhaps close once or twice, but never there in a clinical sense. I am immensely grateful for that.

@Condor5 You have to and never lose sight of the prize. Addiction even for the rich is Misery. Institutionalized addiction is Misery too even with prescription on the pocket, monkey is in your back. Not Good... just keep it up, you doing fine.

@GipsyOfNewSpain I try, brother.
