Because many members of our government are owners of the banks. And they get millions of bribes.

They didn't used to, but like many fine old English laws, usury laws have been quietly overturned in all states. IE the laws are written by the banks now.

As long as they finance both political parties, they'll have carte-blanche to cheat their victims.

As banks pay 1% 2% interest on savings accounts, they charge up to 30% interest on charge cards. This seems like usury to me and should be illegal. At these rates people that incur debt will never be able to pay it off. They are paying interest on interest if they do not eliminate the debt each month. The rates just seem to high for what they pay on savings.
