One of those fleeting things than vanishes when one seeks it.

I think that you create your own destiny but luck can accelerate it

I believe it's raining out. Other than that, I don't believe.

What a great question

"Belief in" is a non-sequitur. ...no matter how many people conform to such a colloquialism, I WALK IN DOORS WITHOUT BELIEF IN DOORS because doors exist not needing beliefs to turn a doorknob or walking in or out an open existing door. ....the gibberish sound gawd gott gods are not words in reality and can only exist in imaginary fiction realms inside the brains of believers NOT CRITICAL THINKERS. ....this is a false leading question manipulating ego. ...no one wants to be branded UN-lucky. ....we decide our own destinies irrational religious or rational Atheist

I don’t believe in luck at all. That is a completely egocentric concept. If something happens to us and it is good for us, WE have good luck. If something happens to us and it is bad, WE have bad luck. It all depends on us!! And more over, in a good day we will see many things from a positive angle, so we will be having a lot of good luck, and in a gloomy day... you see where I am going. It is all coincidence, and the idea that there is something in me, inherently to my person, that causes good things or bad things to happen to me, is very infantile. Now, destiny is even worse. To believe that it all is pre-ordain and that I have no power to change it, and that even when I am making a decision or changing my mind, all that is already pre-ordain, makes me feel like I am an “I Love Lucy” re-run. It would be completely depressing and would fill me with hopelessness. I do not understand why some people find comfort on that. I imagine it would be people who are mentally lazy who don’t want to worry about their own lives, or afraid people that are scared of making the wrong choice or very little minded people for whom the world is cumbersome, menacing, unmanageable, so they prefer to believe everything is taken cared of. Nope, I consider myself a brave atheist, as I defined it in one of my early posts.

I believe we have a greater hand in our path than we understand shaping our lives in ways that.might surprise us. We are the artists of our own destinies. We are all gods in that respect.

I believe that shit just happens. I specifically don't believe in destiny since this implies predestination or a "master plan"

I believe life is a matter of choices, luck, random occurrences and self determination, setting and reaching goals and hoping someone doesn't interfere with your hard work to achieve what you desire and that no unexpected disease, financial setback or accident unfairly derails you. As far as relationships it is a matter of luck if you can find the right person with common enough interests and goals that is willing to give as much as they receive and be loyal and see the long term big picture

Destiny is luck.

Everything that occurs on this planet is simply the reaction to the action that happened prior, starting from when you were born, and your interactions thereof with others who are also cycling through actions and reactions.

a little bit of both

Nope. Life is what you make it and things happen for no reason at all.

Short story:
While heading to Las Vegas for a visit, my friends and I decided to stop at state line for a restroom break. One of our passengers was in the restroom, and I was playing a slot machine that paid over $1M for a max bet ($3). Max I put $20 into the machine, and played until down to my last $2. Mind you, I'm not a gambler, and was only playing while waiting for our remaining passenger. I decided not to add another $1 to max bet on my last turn, and the machine hit 7 7 7, which means I won, but it only paid back my $20. If I'd max betted, I would've won over $1M. Lucky, unlucky - you decide. (End of story)

On another note, I've played craps (dice game), and won lots of money many times, by hitting 7 on my first roll. Do I make important life decisions based on luck, and believe in it, or fairy tales literally? No, but I do believe I've been fortunate. I believe that each person can manipulate their own destiny; however, I don't believe in predetermined destinies or predictions esp. by fortune tellers.

Final note: many disagreements are a matter of semantics...imho

Given my life it's hard not to believe in bad luck. Not a lot works out well for me,

Oh, certainly I do, yes I do ! ! ! Life for me is so much fun when I think that I'm a lucky guy and thank my lucky stars above and my lucky charm - a charmed life! Well, what else do I want to do in this life but have some fun - if only in my mind, aaaahuhuhuuuuuuuuuuu . . .

You can change or control your destiny. When you feel or foresee that you seem to be fated or doomed, when everything seem to be going against you, realize quick that you're probably on the wrong lane. Just gather up everything that has happened, make the necessary adjustments and be on your way. What's the use of PERT-CPM anyway?

We can bring it in for a landing
With a little luck, we can turn it on
There can be no misunderstanding." - Paul McCartney

No, luck is an illusion and Vegas makes billions because they know that.

Fyi, casinos make 70% of their profit from the slots, roullette and "roll of dice" game (don't know what they call it there.) Those so-called games of "chance."

People tell you to "take a chance" or "take your chances" or in other words take the "risk" and what's the risk? well, only two things can happen, you either win or lose... or in extreme cases like in the movie, The Karate Kid scene in a karate duel, the losing fighter was asked: "live or die, man"

Scientists and wise men will not take risks, not even calculated risks. They'll act only in perfectly proven methods - no games of chance for them, no risks.
But gamblers are foolhardy always believing that Lady Luck is smiling on them and they play the game of chance. Makes me wonder if Lady Luck, like God is only one but is omnipresent, ha-ha-ha! But what would you call a guy who wins in the slots beating the odds of about 1-in-12 million?

There are so-called "scientific gamblers" and they'd only play in card games against the house like Black Jack and Bacharat or Lucky 9. Why? because they can see what cards are and how many of them has gone out and how many remain in the shoe. So they compute the probability (pardon, but I also refer to probability as chance) of their winning card coming oiut of the shoe. Casinos are always on the watch for these dudes - card counters they call them. They don't rely on luck. They have more than 95% probabilty of winning against the casino
