LINK Animal Agriculture's Battle against Clean Water - TheHumanist.com

FTA: Kupale Ookala provided proof that wastewater from the dairy farm traveled downstream to the community of Ookala, where it polluted their waterways and ultimately ended up in the ocean. Records regarding this activity begin as early as 2014, when the Hawaii Department of Health confirmed that the dairy farm contaminated local streams as a direct result of neglectful operational practices including poorly maintained feces lagoons, burying dead cows in a gulch that flows into local waterways, and a lack of safety measures for handling and storing toxic chemicals. A notice of violation was not issued by the Department of Health until community residents sent notice of intent to sue.

NASA has also bern doing atmospheric chemistry research in the airways above dairy farms in Crntral Valley California (spent a summer working this project). After a decade of collecting air samples over the dairies, they confirm that dairy fsrms (stockyards too) emit significant smounts of methane, CO2, and other Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) into the atmodphere. The carbon footprints for dairy farms and stockyards are huge. Couple that with the water contamination discussed here, and the footprint makes one wonder about their true importance to the world's dietary needs. Can the planet really afford them. Even though I love milk. steak and burgers, is it worth it.
