LINK Nature's emergency: Where we are in five graphics - BBC News

The felling of forests, the plundering of seas and soils, and the pollution of air and water are together pushing the natural world to the brink.

That's the warning more than 500 experts in 50 countries are expected to give in a major UN-backed report, due to be published on Monday.

The assessment will highlight the losses that have hit the natural world over the past 50 years and how the future is looking bleak for tens to hundreds of thousands of species.

The document, from the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), is also expected to set out an urgent rescue plan for nature.

So what do we know about the health of the planet in terms of biodiversity (the variety of living things on Earth and the ecosystems they belong to)?

And this conference will receive a fraction of the media coverage of the idiot in the WH as after one of his nonsensical tirades.

This biodiversity crisis has been ramping up for decades. There are far too many humans, abdvtoo many of them trying to live the ‘good life’ for the planet to sustain, and still have enough life support fir all the other species. We are too self-centered to grasp that we too are dependent upon a healthy web of life.

We know that it’s a losing cause, greatly expedited by the population of the human race (who are exploitive by nature).

We know that it won’t get enough attention until we, the people, start paying the price for it. Because we know our government isn’t about to do the radical thing required.

Humans are like any other animal that has overpopulated, nature has a way of dealing with it, and humans are no different than dinosaurs, it is not a teleological universe, and the party will end . . . .

I definitely agree

I have trouble simply waiting for the ‘party to end’ ... how many other species must be sacrificed for our party?
