The Battle of Gallipoli has to be one of the most pointless waste of lives in history. Over 220,000 killed for nothing.

Easy. The Battle of Kiska in WW2. Over 300 Americans killed or MIA, over a thousand wounded. Japanese casualites: 0. They didn't show up for the battle, the Americans were fighting themselves. [unitedcats.wordpress.com]
