Is Atheism a Belief System?

I am a big fan of science fiction and have recently started watching Babylon 5 again. In an episode, the various alien races were sharing their belief systems. When it was time for Earth to share, the Commander lined up people from many of Earth's religions and started introducing them one at a time. Interestingly enough, the very first introduction was an Atheist. Hence the question here. Feel free to comment.

Atheism is simply the absences of belief in god(s) it is not a measure of belief in the lack of gods any more than dark is a measure of luminescence or silence is a count of decibels.

I think Atheism is a belief, but not a Belief System.

Agreed, a system requires structure of which none exists for Atheism.

No. There are no creeds, no tenets etc. It is simply the lack of belief in any gods; and that is not a belief system. This does not mean, however, that atheists cannot have a belief system. Humanism, for example, is a belief system that is compatible with being an atheist.
