A personal opinion and a sad reflection on what's happening to religion these days.
I am libertarian so I do not play red team / blue team. I do not jump on bandwagons easily. Penn Teller, represents my views well. I am an objectivist (Ayn Rand) so I do not get along with about 80% of atheists. I do like to keep religion and politics separate. I would rather be governed by a religious libertarian (if you can find one) than an atheist socialist, but I would rather be governed by atheist libertarians. In the USA, with its great economic stratification we have two parties only, forever, and neither one is committed to individual sovereignty (liberty). Johnathan Haidt has some good observations on general personality traits of various political persuasions. We often make invalid inferences associating political, and theological attitudes. I get tired of people thinking I am "conservative" and then assuming that means I am christian, or when people learn I am atheist, they think I am a collectivist socialist.
I straddle the fence. The fence exists to give bearing to the opposing sides. I exist on a plane of neutrality and I'm not trying to draw ire. I simply wish to inspire conversation.
