This is a very BIG win.
North Dakota added a requirement that voters must have a physical street address (no P.O. Boxes) in order to vote. This was targeted specifically at Native Americans who live on reservations and usually get mail via P.O. Boxes because the reservations have no street addresses. Most Native Americans vote democrat, so it also enabled republicans to pick up another House seat, in the district that covered the Indian reservation, in 2018, because most natives were not allowed to vote due to a lack of street address.
So, with this ruling the Dems will likely pick up that House seat they lost in 2018.
The Indians are mostly interested in a government handout and they know the looney democrats will give it to them.
The Natives I have met and known are interested in the tribe(s) beign self sufficient.
The U.S. government forcibly took away their land and places them on what at the time seemed to be some of the worst places to live with the least amount of natural resources, and systematically tries to destroy their language and culture. Their traditional way of life was unsuited for confinement in an area where there was no natural food sources in which they are forced to live and "reservations" were not included in rural electrification programs, makes life for natives very difficult.
I do not think it is loony to help them, because we, the U.S. put them in such dire straights to begin with,. Not so much as I think it is loony for republicans to give billions in tax breaks and subsidies to already highly profitable corporations. To deny help to those who actually need help in order to give more to those who really don't need any help at all seems loony.
The democrats have empathy. The republicans, especially lately, don't seem to have any. If to care about fellow hums is loony, then the human race is doomed.
