Was just thinking on a common thread with both religion and police budgets. Only now are we able to challenge either, and it is still the third rail for any politicians to either want to constrain police and military spending or to not be a Christian. Both good examples of things that are culturally protected from challenge even though many or most may have concerns. I would still love to see politicians hooked to lie detectors and respond as to what their beliefs really are. At the same time it is easy to think about going too far. perhaps all Christians should be required to take de-programming before being given a drivers license--have you heard that Jesus take the Wheel song? And people are now talking about fully defunding urban police departments and what do we do with all the derelicts who used to be cops. Really? how about we trim out some of the military stuff as a first step, and look at reducing force numbers as their tasks can be shifted elsewhere. So, at least we can talk about these things, although it will be a while before job applications will have a box that people have to check if they believe in imaginary beings.
What you’ve brought in my mind is how fast-change happens when the mass of US Americans demand it. If - the party willing to move forward wins back the Presidency and our Senate (holding the House of reps.) - all but the Supreme Court are within reach. Things can change fast!
But - their opposition never sleeps. It will continue to hammer away at just enough to get theirs back into office ..in order to chip away at any progress. So - The People will have to remain vigilant! They can not awaken every 4 years … then snooze another four..
As for the christians … they may actually have ‘seen some light’... may possibly be willing to question some beliefs. Their reality is no more positive than ours, and following a con man holding a bible has only taken them closer to a hell on earth.
Lots of good questions and ideas. Defunding should come via less weaponry or shifting the funds from weaponry to education. Have you see this interview with Killer Mike? Towards the end I liked where he says they are tired of takin' care of white folk, this is their problem and they need to fix it.
As to deprogramming before one can get a drivers license - hahahaha. if ONLY it could be so.
