Touch
Had an interesting experience this morning. Went to my dentist this morning for an old filling to be redone. After many dentists throughout my life this one is, by far, the best; caring, informative, has all the latest equipment (hand-held wireless X-ray, wireless BP, modern, decorative facility and on). After a while, lying in the chair with Christine and the assistant working on me I found a real sense of calm. I am single, living alone with no pets and even though I frequently work with some good friends, due to the virus there has been no touching. Here both parties were constantly, gently touching my face. I mentioned this to them and she told me another woman said the same thing. How many have noticed missing being touched by another human?

Not yet! I'm good without touching so far. I really enjoyed visiting with my kids/grandkids in March, but since home from that trip, I haven't touched another living being in 3 months. I think I've got a dentist appointment in August. So, I'll be curious if I'll have a similar pleasurable experience or not.

It might depend on the dentist.

Personally, I don't care for people touching me, & especially for anyone not direct family.

I just returned from an appointment with my eye surgeon. Not much touching there, but interesting, involved, and fascinating conversations. He and I both worked for the same hospital system at one time, we both have quite sarcastic ideas about our former employer, so that's what we walked about. I must say I miss those stimulating conversations about technical issues with cohorts.
I could just feel those different parts of my brain lighting up. I spend my days with the 10-year-old granddaughter and although she has the sarcasm gene already developing, it is not the same.

You are right! I also had a conversation with my dentist. One funny question I asked concerned checking colors for the new filling to match the rest of my teeth. I asked if they ever had to match a smokers filling and was there a nicotine color. She said they do and there is such a color. She always talks about what procedure she is doing and asks how it feels. Everything has to be just right with her.

Being kind of a touchy feely person l do miss that contact, but it is now second nature not to hug or shake hands.

Yes, that is so. I miss being hugged by my kids and grandkids. We are still quite paranoid about that. But I got to hold the baby the other day, three weeks old, soft and smooth and downy like a duckling,. I am good now for a few more weeks!

I have never been a huger (except with my late partner) but now am starting to see the value in that.

I would kill to get a dentist appointment. My city still closed. Dentists are vulnerable. Philly still can't get haircuts either. I've cut my own hair twice.

Sorry to hear about this and it reminds me how lucky I was to get out of Seattle long before this event. An editorial tried to weigh the pro's and cons of urbanization and things like this are often unforeseeable.

I had a cap redone yesterday, and everyone was head to toe in protective gear. No touching skin to skin. But yeah, I know what you mean.

That's too bad. We are a small island and the dentist knows everyone. We had 1 case in the beginning (from an outsider who came to hibernate in her vacation home). There have been 15 in all in the county but things are getting more relaxed here.
