Today I was in the woods that I played in when I was growing up. Due to the extended dry spell, the creek is not flowing, but this swimming hole is still full of water. Some leaves still on the trees, some leaves floating on the water, the water becoming dark from the leaves that have sunk to the bottom...

Beautiful place. I never look back at my youth. It's gone just like I'll be soon.

The past is gone in a sense, but events of the past shape the future. I don't believe I look back excessively, but I do look back. There are good things to remember.

However, I'm in no way criticizing the practice of leaving the past behind, in a sense. It's past, it cannot be changed. It's just part of who I am.
