After the Pennsylvania Supreme Court dismissed the Trump campaign's latest lawsuit, which sought to either dismiss absentee ballots which were supplied under an act passed in 2019, or else dismiss the entire vote and instruct the Republican legislature to choose the state's electors- an option which would have disenfranchised 6.9 million voters- Trump team lawyer Jenna Ellis discussed pursuing the case to the U.S. Supreme Court, which has patently been Trump's goal all along.
'Trump attorney Jenna Ellis said in an interview with One America News on Saturday that the team is weighing its options for taking a Pennsylvania case to the U.S. Supreme Court.
“There are multiple vehicles and ways to get to the Supreme Court. That may be through the 3rd Circuit; it may be through other means,” she said.
“This has become a ridiculous political game,” she wrote, adding that the post-election litigation represents a “fight for the very integrity of our entire system.”' [washingtonpost.com]
The irony in her words, of course, is that her client is the one making it a "ridiculous political game" by his refusal to recognize reality; by clinging to fantasies of overturning the election result; by, out of simple pettiness, poisoning the well for the Biden administration via his attempts to convince his followers that Biden did not actually win the election, that he somehow "stole" it, that it was a "rigged election". And those who are fighting for the integrity of our entire democratic (small "d" ) system, are on the opposite side from Trump and his lawyers.
It's hard to guess whether Ellis actually believes what she says, or if she's just a mercenary earning her paycheck for as long as possible. It's been made very clear that anyone who tells the truth around Trump's orbit is not long for their career. Look at the head of the DHS Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Christopher Krebs, who was unceremoniously tweet-fired after releasing the statement, "There is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised," directly contradicting Trump's claims. Bill O'Reilly once claimed to host a "spin-free zone"; Trump is living in a reality-free zone.
And now, Trump obviously and dearly hopes that the High Court will somehow rescue him from the ignominy of losing his reelection. After all, he appointed three of the Justices; in Trump's cynical, transactional world, they owe him.
The post-election and the transition have indeed been made into a ridiculous political game. And no-one has been more ridiculous than Trump, except perhaps the legal team who have now gone 1 for 25 or worse on their lawsuits. One Hail Mary pass after another has fallen laughably short of the end zone; in virtual courtroom after courtroom, the lawyers have been forced to concede that they're not even alleging any fraud, they simply want to throw out any ballots that don't have "Trump" checked on them. If this is a game, surely they must know it's a losing one.
Good summary, except you forgot to include @barjoe's comment, below
I felt it was a tad harsh. I try to keep my political commentary rated PG.
